Kerala Women Books Launch

62 women from Kerala unveiled their works, spanning a range of genres, in an event at the ongoing Sharjah International Book Fair. Having all survived various difficulties, the authors, including retired government employees, homemakers, teachers, doctors, and journalists, made their literary dreams a reality. Among them were even daily wage workers and women from economically disadvantaged communities who fulfilled their literary aspirations by launching books at such a prestigious international event.

Although 62 books were released, 27 authors were able to attend the fair. The women, representing regions like Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram, presented a wide variety of works, including novels, short stories, poetry, and essays on subjects ranging from astrology to health.

Mridula, a teacher, shared her excitement, saying, "I feel very proud to have my book released here. I'm grateful for the support of my family and well-wishers in helping me reach this milestone."

The women were able to publish their books with the help of Pennillam Ezhuthidam, a literary initiative based in Kerala's Kannur district. Founded in December of the previous year, Pennillam Ezhuthidam empowers lesser-known writers, especially women, by providing support and a platform to showcase their works. The organization started with 40 members and has since expanded.

Anitha Devi, another author, expressed her gratitude, saying, “This is a platform for everyone,” while Smita Kodanad shared her happiness, stating, “I’m truly happy with this achievement.”

Raji Aravind from Pennillam Ezhuthidam extended an invitation to more aspiring writers, saying, "We welcome more book lovers who wish to realize their dreams."
